Teeth whitening at home

otthoni fogfehérítés, fogfehérítő eljárások. teeth whitening at home

The interest in teeth whitening procedures is constantly growing. Not everyone has perfectly white teeth. The basic whiteness (that is, brightness) of teeth depends on genetic and lifestyle factors as well.

At-home whitening provides an excellent solution to this issue. Although this process is done at home, it is still important to continue with regular check-ups by a dentist.

Az első lépés, hogy a fogsort alkalmassá tegyük a fogfehérítő beavatkozásra. A fogfehérítés előtt fontos a fogkőeltávolítás, illetve a szuvas fogak, rosszul záró tömések ellátása.

THE PROCESS OF TEETH WHITENING AT-HOME

The whitening kit contains small syringes filled with whitening gel. Usually two of these are enough to last for the 4-8 days required by the process. You can choose to apply the product during the day or at night. After it is applied to the dental tray, the whitening gel is effective for about 4-6 hours.

HOW TO INSERT THE DENTAL TRAY
  1. The teeth should be thoroughly brushed before and after the whitening session.
  2. Squeeze some gel into the tray, on the frontal walls which will touch the frontal surface of your teeth. Apply a small drop of gel inside the cup of each tooth. Put gel in the positions of all the teeth you want to brighten.
  3. Place the gel-filled dental tray over your teeth. The tray is in the right position when it completely covers the outer surface of the teeth.
  4. Spread the material by gently smoothing the external wall of the tray against the row of your teeth. Since the tray is transparent, you can visibly check whether the material coats all tooth surfaces without bubbles.
  5. If necessary, you can remove any excess gel that has squeezed out at the edge of the tray using a soft-bristled toothbrush, a tissue or a clean finger.
REMOVING THE DENTAL TRAY
  1. When the whitening session is over, remove the tray from the teeth. Clean off any gel residues from the teeth with a toothbrush, and rinse well.
  2. A desensitizing toothpaste with fluoride is recommended for regular brushing.
  3. Clean both the inner and outer surface of the dental tray with a toothbrush under warm running water. Do not leave any gel residues in the tray!
  4. Check whether you see any changes in the gums around the teeth.

If your teeth feel overly sensitive, we advise you to take a pause in the whitening treatment for a time. The tray is recommended to be used only every second or third night – or alternatively, you can use it for two to three hours during the day.

HOW TO STORE THE PRODUCT

Do not expose the Opalescence® syringes to heat or direct sunlight. The product should be stored in a refrigerator, but do not put in the freezer! The whitening solution should be kept out of the reach of children!

WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A HOME TOOTH WHITENING PROCEDURE?

The results of the whitening process depend on the teeth themselves and the type of the discoloration. Teeth which have become greyish from a root canal treatment for example cannot be whitened from the outside, only by internal whitening techniques. It is important to know that the color of existing fillings and crowns will not change. Clinical studies have proven that when used appropriately, the product does not damage the teeth, gums, fillings or mucous membranes. Short-term tooth sensitivity may occur as a side effect, but it disappears after 1-2 days following the treatment. Experience shows that the results of Opalescence® gel whitening can last for several years. The lastingness of the resulting color depends on lifestyle factors. Teeth can become darker again faster if they come into contact with products with a discoloring effect, such as nicotine, coffee or fruit juice. If this happens, the teeth can be whitened again by using Opalescence® gel for a few nights.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AFTER TEETH WHITENING

Avoid foods and drinks with a strong coloring effect for 48 hours after the whitening treatment. Your teeth need this time for the enamel layer to fully regenerate.

Such foods include red wine, black coffee, tea, beetroot, berries, etc. In the same period, you should also abstain from smoking and from using lipstick.

Contrary to popular belief, tooth whitening does not thin or erode the enamel of teeth, it only affects the discoloration.

The tray always needs to be removed before eating or drinking! The process is not recommended for women during pregnancy and for children.
